Reshooting the Opening

 

    March 9th was the day we chose to refilm and reshoot our film opening, however this time we were more prepared and had more people to allow the film to make more sense and be more interesting, with our previous sessions having issues due to a lack of actors and lack of hindsight.

This time we had mistakes in our last session to assist in the dialogue and time frames in each of our shots. Before we had begun filming we had reviewed potential dialogue that could be used in the film such as the topic of their missing classmate as well as describing the shots we had wanted to achieve.

However, we did have a minor setback which was the absence of Arturo, however, he did assist in developing a minor story they could discuss as well in our previous filming session with assisting me with the framing of our shots.

When we had begun to film there was a minor issue, the location we had chosen was the student parking lot of our school, the issue was that one of the after school clubs had an activity going on at the same time as we were filming, however, we felt this could be used to our advantage as to create a more realistic atmosphere in the film.

For the first scene which was the arc shot around the car, we had almost no issues besides timing however after a few retakes we had gotten it down with both the pacing of me walking around the car and the timing of the actors to enter the car. This shot in my opinion was the most simple shot of the film for me to take in which I was involved directly.

In the next scene which was the interior of the car,  I was not directly recording nor present due to space issues in the car, however in this shot, we had some issues, both myself and the driver had left the equipment needed to film in the car at home and we had little to no time to drive home to pick it up, so we were forced to improvise, we had chosen to do was the balance my phone on the front glass and hope it would work. We had run a couple of tests to see what position would record the car and stay placed the best as in some positions we lacked visual and in others, we lacked stability, however, after a couple attempts we found a position that worked well in both regards. For this portion of the filming both Abdullah and myself left the control to the driver and the passengers, by the end of their mini session we had close to five minutes of dialogue to use and cut down for the film.

Our next scene was the scene in which the passengers disappear from the car, for this scene we had a handful of retakes as I had issues with my hand covering part of the frame and other issues with the driver either talking for too long or not enough, however, this scene was fairly simple with being a simple pan shot from the driver to the backseat and back to the driver.

The next scene was the lead-up to the final, for this scene it was completely up to the driver on how they wanted to present their panic and fear as they tear through their car, and then begin to break down.

For the final scene, we had some trouble as on some takes the actor had either taken too long throughout the scene or they had not displayed little to no fear, this scene to a handful of takes but on one of our takes we had both a blend of good timing and fear. Personally, I felt that this filming session went great will allow us to create a great film with interesting shots.
