Representation
Representation in film is a very important topic, in both film and the world, as representation is what gets a film their reliability factor, as people would relate to a character in a film if they were from a similar background. Representation also creates an exploration of culture as people begin to be exposed to different customs and cultures. Representation works exceptionally well in media, as film is often an exploration of the mindset and culture of the creator.
In our film Representation wasn't an aspect we had focused on primarily, however by nature we do have a somewhat diverse group of people in our film due to where we live, Florida is a melting pot of culture with people from all around the world calling this place home, however, when we were initially asking for people to help us film we were not focused on diversity, it sort of just happened naturally due to the different cultures and customs were are exposed in this state and this country.
In our film, we had shown different cultures and backgrounds for our characters and their friends, as that is what represents the friend groups we have in real life, with each of us being different in some regard. Personally, I see the friend group in our film to be a fairly accurate depiction of the social life for teenagers in Florida, with people being different yet similar at the same time.
